Configured for various missions, the F-18C Hornet was the first US aircraft with both the fighter and attacker designations. A product of impressive engineering, this dog fighter plane was outfitted with powerful afterburning turbine engines that allow the plane’s pilots to make quick escapes during hairy situations. Fortified with rear fins for stability and rudders for turning, the F-18C can reach a Mach 1.7 speed. To help pilots take control of challenging situations (speeding out of target range while engaging another aircraft), the plane was equipped with advanced avionics gadgetry such as night vision goggles and heads-up display (HUD). The technology applied to the aircraft’s cockpit design made it easier to fly. As the first digital US combat fighter plane, this single-seat F 18 Hornet had been used mainly for battles unlike its two-seat counterpart that was used train pilots from the US Air Force, Marine Corps, and NASA.
