The U.S. Air Force (USAF) needed a lightweight and easy to maneuver multirole fighter aircraft that can be deployed quickly within a short period. The F-16 Fighting Falcon was then developed with these necessities in mind. Through careful research and planning, General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) outfitted the aircraft with a single engine, which made the Fighting Falcon a high-performing, aerodynamic aircraft. In addition to the amplified engine thrust, the Fighter Falcon also received other modifications, which gave the aircraft increased range and payload. Built in the late 70s, the F-16 Fighting Falcon remains to be one of the most effective fighter aircraft in history. In addition to serving the United States Air Force, several F-16 units were sold to allied countries for air defense.
