The Fairchild Thunderbolt II A-10 Warthog is a versatile aircraft owing to its low-speed, low-altitude maneuverability and effective targeting over different types of terrain. Due to the ground attack aircraft’s extraordinarily long-range and unmatched endurance, it was the aircraft of choice for missions that called for short take-off and landing capability. The A-10 Warthog survived heat-seeking missiles during the Persian Gulf War and its pilots home safe and sound. It first saw action during Operation Desert Storm. It acted as a supporting aircraft during the NATO operations launched in response to the Kosovo crisis. The A-10 Warthog also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
