The A-5 Vigilante was a carrier-based bomber built for the US Navy. This aircraft was equipped with advanced avionics such as sophisticated inertial navigation and bombing systems, TV, radar, and advanced imaging systems (for the recon configuration). Originally designated as the A3J-1, the A-5 was the largest and fastest aircraft to operate from an aircraft carrier. Once clocked at Mach 2.5, the pilot said he felt he could go faster. In 1960, it set an altitude record of 91,450 feet.
This wooden model aircraft accurately reflects in stunning detail the structural configuration, color, and markings of the actual A-5 Vigilante.
